Meet the Artist
About Glenda
When did you start art?
I have from my early school days been tinkering with different aspects of art but have only gotten more serious in the last 10 years.
Why did you start art?
I was dobbed in by my husband. Late 2006 the principal of the home schooling group with which I schooled my children was setting up an activity programme for students in the South East Queensland area. My husband, known to be a registered track and field coach was approached to deliver the sports programme. When he was asked did he know anyone else who could offer another activity he readily nominated me to do art sessions (to my shock and horror) and this is where my art journey really began.
Wanting the students to learn proper art techniques I sorted out someone to help me and found Darla Boyd. She has been a tremendous help, not only was I able to give the students an enjoyable art experience but my own art has now blossomed.
What medium(s) do you use?
As I work with children I endeavour to give them an appreciation of as many of the mediums as possible but the one that I always come back to is the pencil, both coloured and graphite.
What is your favourite subject matter?
I love doing wildlife especially Australian birds.
How do you feel when you do art?
It is not so much what I feel when I immerse myself in my art but what I experience, a sensation of total absence of the hustle and bustle or everyday life.
What prizes have you won?
I have had some success at the Caboolture Show over the years having received both Reserve Champion and Show Champion awards. I also won minor places at the Alan Reading Memorial Art Awards and Art Alliance Pine Rivers.
Where do you hope your art takes you?
I was hoping to make art my retirement plan, to sit quietly somewhere with my drawings and paintings
What more can you tell us about yourself?
I’m 63, been married 40 years, have two children a daughter and a son and two grand children. My husband and I are self employed with a drafting business drawing house plans for the building industry. We have also set up an art gallery and an activity centre with table tennis and indoor archery under way. There are other activities in the pipe line.
